To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what was the average annual growth rate in the gross domestic product of the United Kingdom in(a) the 1960s, (b) the 1970s and (c) the 1980s.

Between 1980 and 1989 the average annual growth in gross domestic product of the United Kingdom averaged 2.7 per cent. per annum. This compares with growth rates of 3.0 per cent. in the 1960s and 1.8 per cent. in the 1970s.
