Mr. Meacher

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security how many people with disabilities in paid employment work(a) less than eight hours, (b) fewer than 16 hours and (c) more than 16 hours.

Mr. Scott

It is estimated that the numbers of people with disabilities in paid work are(a) 20,000 people working fewer than eight hours, (b) 70,000 people working fewer than 16 hours, and (c) 575,000 people working more than 16 hours.

Mr. Meacher

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security how many people in receipt of a disability-related benefit have mortgage commitments.

Mr. Scott

It is estimated from the family expenditure survey that about 300,000 recipients of the main disability-related benefits have mortgages.
