Whether the Interdepartmental Committee on Animal Feedingstuffs consults consumer interests as well as industry organisations on proposals for European Community legislation and, if not, why not.

The Interdepartmental Committee on Animal Feedingstuffs (IDCAFS) is a scientific advisory committee and does not itself consult consumer organisations. However officials in my department who provide the Secretariat to IDCAFS consult a wide range of organisations on animal feedingstuff projects, including consumer interests. The MAFF Consumer Panel is also regularly updated on current issues in this area.
