To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what assistance the Government are giving Nottinghamshire county council to meet additional expenditure incurred following the bad weather; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Key

We currently have no information to suggest that Nottinghamshire county council incurred costs greater than those which it could be expected to meet as part of its normal responsibilities for coping with winter weather. But we will consider any request for assistance made by Nottinghamshire or any other local authority.
