§ Dr. MawhinneyIn July 1990, as Minister responsible for education in Northern Ireland, I announced that discussions about the future provision of initial teacher training would take place between the Department of Education and other interested parties to ensure that the teacher training institutions are well placed to give Northern Ireland teachers the best possible preparation for the challenges of teaching in the 21st century.
