§ Dr. TwinnTo ask the Secretary of State for Transport whether highway authorities are eligible for a transport supplementary grant to bring their street lighting up to standard as a crime prevention measure.
§ Mr. ChopeCrime prevention is not one of the criteria for transport supplementary grant, but local authority capital expenditure on street lighting is eligible for transport supplementary grant on roads which are of more than local importance or where it is associated with local safety schemes. Street lighting can also be improved by the use of the local authority's block allocation of credit approvals.
