To ask the Minister for the Arts how many people have been approached to chair the London Arts Board.

Mr. Renton

A number of people were approached to find out whether they would wish to be considered for this appointment. From the resulting shortlist, the Arts Council recommended, and I have endorsed, the appointment of Mr. Clive Priestly. I am delighted that the new board will be led by someone of Mr. Priestly's wide administrative experience, combined with his firm and long-standing commitment to the arts.
