To ask the Secretary of State for Defence if he will give full details of the incident involving a fishing vessel and a submarine which took place on 13 February; and if he will make a statement.

At approximately 0930 on 13 February, a fishing vessel in the Firth of Clyde reported being passed by a submarine at periscope depth at an estimated distance of 100 yards. Following usual practice, this report has been fully investigated and it has been established that the closest approach made by the submarine in question was 1,500 yards. Notification of dived submarine operations in the area had been broadcast, in accordance with recently established practice.
