To ask the Secretary of State for Defence (1) how many United Kingdom ground force troops are available for combat in the Gulf;

(2) how many (a) MoD personnel, (b) United Kingdom service personnel and (c) United Kingdom medical personnel are deployed in the Gulf.

The United Kingdom has committed some 43,000 personnel in total to the coalition force. It would not be appropriate to provide a detailed breakdown of this total, for operational security reasons.
