HC Deb 19 February 1991 vol 186 cc134-5W
26. Mr. Andrew Welsh

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence if he will make a further statement on the reduction of United States navy personnel at the Holy Loch submarine base at Faslane.

29. Mr. Salmond

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence if he will make a further statement on the reduction of United States navy personnel at the Holy Loch submarine base at Faslane.

Mr. Archie Hamilton

As my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Defence said on 5 February, the United States navy will, by the end of this year, no longer have a requirement for its submarine support facility at the Holy Loch and this facility will therefore close. The exact date of closure has yet to be determined, but is likely to be some time in 1992. The Royal Navy base at Faslane is unaffected by the United States decision to withdraw from the Holy Loch.
