§ Mr. SpearingTo ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he will make a statement concerning the current extent of one-person operation on the trains of the British Railways Board in the London travel-to-work area, the changes that have occurred since 1979, and those projected by the board.
§ Mr. FreemanMany trains on routes into London and elsewhere are now one-person operated. Further extensions of one-person operation are an operational matter for the board and depend on various factors including the availability of suitable rolling stock and associated safety features such as cab radio.
