HC Deb 14 February 1991 vol 185 c567W
Mr. Dobson

To ask the Secretary of State for Energy if he will place in the Library any information held by his Department on the environmental impact of the burning of orimulsion in power stations.

Mr. Wakeham

I am placing a copy of PowerGen's environmental statement for the installation of an electrostatic precipitator at the Ince B power station and explanatory booklets on orimulsion prepared by BP Bitor in the Library of the House.

Mr. Dobson

To ask the Secretary of State for Energy when his Department first knew that orimulsion was to be imported into Britain to be burnt in power stations.

Mr. Wakeham

Decisions on the type and quantity of fuel used in electricity generation are an operational matter for the industry. The Central Electricity Generating Board started trials involving the use of orimulsion at the Ince B power station in early 1988 when a single burner was modified to allow the burning of 200 tonnes of the fuel.
