To ask the Secretary of State for Health what mechanism there is to link levels of state funding and the quality of care elderly residents can expect.

Mr. Dorrell

The Government determine the amount of aggregate external finance each local authority will receive on the basis of standard spending assessments. It is for each authority to determine its own priorities including appropriate care for the elderly residents it supports.
