To ask the Secretary of State for Employment (1) what was the level of unemployment for each parliamentary constituency in Kent in(a) June 1990 and (b) November 1990;

(2) for each parliamentary constituency in Kent, what was the level of unemployment in (a) June 1990 and (b) November 1990, calculated on the same basis as that which was used to make such calculations by his Department in April 1979;

(3) what was the level of unemployment in April 1979, for each parliamentary constituency in Kent.

To ask the Secretary of State For Employment how many improvement notices were issued against employers in 1989–90 relating to control of noise at work for each of the geographical areas of, respectively, the factory inspectorate, the mines and quarries inspectorate, the agricultural inspectorate and the railways inspectorate.

It is not possible to estimate the number of people who would now be registered as unemployed according to the basis prevailing in 1979. At that time people had to register at jobcentres or careers offices as well as unemployment benefit offices in order to qualify for benefits. These procedures no longer exist.
