HC Deb 08 February 1991 vol 185 cc253-4W
Mrs. Mahon

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what consideration has been given to the effects of oil price increases on the budget allocated to alleviate third-world poverty.

Mrs. Chalker

The cost of imported oil is an important factor in the economies of many developing countries. We supported plans by the International Monetary Fund and the World bank, to which we contribute from our aid programme, to provide help to countries adjusting to the oil price increases in the second half of 1990. These plans will be kept under review in the light of changes in the oil price.
