To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland, pursuant to the written answer of 30 January,Official Report, column 554, to the hon. Member for Aberdeen, North, what proportion of the total cost of services in preparation by Price Waterhouse for the preparation of direct management unit and NHS trust status business places the £50,000 fee to Price Waterhouse represents; what was the total fee and which body or organisation funded the remainder of the fee.

[holding answer 7 February 1991]: Revised figures provided by Grampian health board indicate that the total cost of the consultancy work carried out by Price Waterhouse was £156,000, of which £41,000 was met by Grampian health board directly and the remaining expenditure funded by the Scottish Office Home and Health Department and the university of Aberdeen.
