To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what systems to facilitate medical audit and monitor service quality are being considered by the Welsh Office as part of its information and information technology strategy for the NHS in Wales.

Systems for both medical audit and for monitoring service quality have been indentified as priority developments in the "Technical Strategy and Implementation Programme" published in December 1990. Systems for the former will be provided shortly; the latter will form part of a health status and performance monitoring system which is currently under consideration.
