§ Mr. John PattenWe shall continue to pursue vigorously our policies to combat crime and protect the public. Additional people and money will be made available to the police this year. The provisions of the 237W Criminal Justice Bill will enhance the courts' powers to deal effectively with offenders. We are expanding our substantial programme of crime prevention measures, with four new safer cities projects recently announced.
