To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what is the percentage of poultry consumed in the United Kingdom which has been imported for the latest available date; how many tests for the presence of salmonella were carried out and with what results; and if he will make a statement.

In 1990, imports of poultrymeat represented 12.4 per cent. of domestic use and is forecast at 12 per cent. for 1991.

Information on the results from the bacteriological testing of imported poultrymeat is not held centrally.
