To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what steps have been taken to introduce a decommissioning scheme for fishermen; and if he will make a statement.

My right hon. Friend has already made it clear that he is prepared to consider proposals for a decommissioning scheme, but only as part of a wider package including effort control. We are currently debating these ideas with the industry.
