HC Deb 18 December 1991 vol 201 c189W
Mr. Gill

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what labelling or other requirements exist to enable United Kingdom consumers to exercise informed choice about the bacteriological standard of the eggs they purchase.

Mr. Maclean

The labelling of eggs is governed by the European Community Egg Marketing Regulations. These contain no provision for labelling on bacteriological quality. However, all food, including eggs must comply with the requirements of the Food Safety Act 1990.
