§ Mr. John PattenSentencing in individual cases is a matter for the courts within the powers given by Parliament. The Aggravated Vehicle-Taking Bill now before Parliament strengthens courts' powers to deal with the unauthorised taking of motor vehicles where there is dangerous driving, damage or injury. Courts have the power to impose a custodial sentence of up to 14 years on offenders convicted of domestic burglary.
