§ Mr. Wigley
To ask the Secretary of State for Wales if he will publish target student intake figures for each constituent college in the university of Wales in each year from the current year until 1998; and state in each case what proportion of the intake is estimated to come from schools within Wales.
§ Sir Wyn Roberts
There are no target intake figures set centrally for universities. The number of students in the136W constituent colleges of the university of Wales being funded by the Universities Funding Council in 1991–92 are:
Number Aberystwyth 3,485 Bangor 2,882 Cardiff 7,148 St. David's Lampeter 812 Swansea 4,235 College of Medicine 980
For the years from 1993–94, subject to parliamentary approval of the Further and Higher Education Bill, funding of higher education institutions in Wales will be the responsibility of the Higher Education Funding Council for Wales. No assumption is made centrally about the proportion of entrants to the university of Wales that come from schools within Wales.
