HC Deb 12 December 1991 vol 200 cc497-8W
Mr. O'Neill

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether he will list the proposed criteria that will determine the inclusion of military equipment on the proposed United Nations register of arms transfers.

Mr. Douglas Hogg

On 9 December, the United Nations General Assembly voted by an overwhelming majority to establish at the United Nations a universal and non-discriminatory register of conventional arms transfers. The register will be established in January 1992 and will cover international transfers of seven broad categories of major weapons systems. The categories are: battle tanks, armoured combat vehicles, large calibre artillery systems, combat aircraft, attack helicopters, warships and missiles or missile systems.
