HC Deb 11 December 1991 vol 200 cc454-5W
27. Mr. Andrew Welsh

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what information he has on traffic usage and accidents for each of the past five years on the A92; and if he will institute a programme for re-trunking and improving this road.

Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

Traffic growth on the A92 between Dundee and Stonehaven is well below that for the key, strategic inter-urban trunk roads. The overall accident rate on this route has fallen by over 15 per cent. in the period between 1985 and 1990. Scotland presently has a very extensive trunk road network. Proposals for changes to the network will be considered following analysis off the findings of the major review, which is nearing completion, of the trunk and key principal road network. The A92 is however already designated as a primary route and retrunking is unlikely. It is for Tayside regional council as the roads authority to consider any upgrading or improvements necessary.
