HC Deb 10 December 1991 vol 200 c417W
Mrs. Heal

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science what was the total cost of introducing testing for seven-year-olds in 1991; and what is the estimated cost of testing for 1992.

Mr. Eggar

The total cost of writing, printing and distributing the tests for seven-year-olds for England and Wales in English, Welsh, maths and science was £1.1 million for 1991, and is estimated at £2 million for 1992. The associated essential development work, including trials and evaluation, cost £4.3 million.

The Department also supports expenditure by LEAs on implementing the assessment arrangements through its grants for education support and training programme, to fund a total of £35 million in 1991–92 and £45 million in 1992–93.
