HC Deb 09 December 1991 vol 200 c304W
Mr. Amos

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he will meet the chairman of the Civil Aviation Authority to discuss the level of fares charged by British Airways on its European routes; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. McLoughlin

I have no present plans to do so. The Commission has taken a decision on certain fares which the CAA judged to be too high and which we accordingly referred to the Commission under the current EC Air Fares Regulation. The Commission appears to have agreed with us, at least to some extent. But the decision has not yet been received, and we shall need, in conjunction with the CAA, to study it carefully once we have it.

Mr. Amos

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he will meet the EC Transport Commissioner to discuss the reduction of European air fares; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. McLoughlin

I have no plans to do so. The Commission has taken a decision on certain fares which we referred to it under the current EC Air Fares Regulation as being too high. It appears to have agreed with us, at least to some extent. But the formal decision has not yet been received and we shall need to study it carefully once we have it.
