To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will set out what the role, responsibilities and duties of the London Docklands development corporation will be with regard to the operation and investment strategy of the docklands light railway; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Portillo

The London Docklands development corporation will exercise a strategic role in respect of the Docklands Light Railway. Day to day management will continue to be the responsibility of DLR Ltd.

Ms. Ruddock

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what budget will be made available to the London Docklands development corporation to(a) acquire the docklands light railway and (b) operate and manage the docklands light railway.

Mr. Portillo

The transfer of the Docklands Light Railway from London Regional Transport to London Docklands development corporation will be for a nominal sum. There will be an accompanying transfer of the resources required to operate and manage the railway.
