To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what was the arrest and ejection rate at Football League matches in England and Wales for the season 1990–91; and what was the arrest rate for society over the same period.

There were 22 arrests and 27 ejections per 100,000 of the people attending football league matches in England and Wales last season. In the period from August 1990 to May 1991, the number of arrests made by forces excluding the Metropolitan police district were 2,965 per 100,000 of the population. Arrests for notifiable offences in the Metropolitan police district were 1,350 per 100,000 of the population.
