§ 26. Mr. Harry Greenway
To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment how many acres within the former Greater London council area are designated as green belt; what was the figure in May 1979; and if he will make a statement.
§ Sir George Young
The Metropolitan green belt has grown from just over 750,000 acres in 1979 to 1.2 million acres now. Figures for the former GLC area would need to be obtained from the individual local authorities.
