To ask the Secretary of State for Health if he will make a statement on the financial position of NHS hospitals.

Mr. Dorrell

Government revenue spending on the hospital and community health service is set to rise in real terms by 6.7 per cent. this year and by a further 5 per cent. next year, taking the total annual spend to £20 billion. The financial position of NHS hospitals is better than ever before.
