HL Deb 02 December 1991 vol 533 c2WA
Lord Holme of Cheltenham

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether European Community legislation, which would effectively ban equine physiotherapists from practising with horses unless they had previously qualified as human physiotherapists, is due to come into effect shortly.

The Minister of State, Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (Baroness Trumpington)

Treatment by physiotherapy given to an animal is presently covered by the Veterinary Surgery (Exemptions) Order 1962, which requires the physiotherapist to act under the direction of a registered veterinary surgeon. I am not aware of any Community legislation of the kind described.
