To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science what is the cost to public funds to date of Bacon's city technology college, Southwark, in each of the financial years since its announcement; what is the latest projected cost up to and including completion; and what proportion of capital moneys expended by his Department in(a) Southwark and (b) the parliamentary constituency of Southwark and Bermondsey on (i) secondary schools, (ii) all schools and (iii) in total this comprises in each of the years in question.

Capital expenditure by the Department on the Bacon's city technology college was £1.799 million in 1989–90 and £5.671 million in 1990–91. The building programme is expected to conclude in 1991.92 and the forecast spend is £3.956 million. Information on capital expenditure by the London borough of Southwark since it took over educational responsibilities from ILEA is not yet available. Southwark local education authority's annual capital guideline for 1991–92 was £1.258 million, of which the notional schools' component was £1.220 million. The comparable figures for 1990–91 were £1.429 million, £1.367 million of which was for schools. Southwark's allocation for capital works at voluntary aided schools in 1991–92 was £0.861 million and in 1990–91 was £1.186 million.
