The table therefore shows, for each year for which information is available, spending figures per pupil for books and equipment together as well as for books and equipment separately.

The Government are concerned to ensure that children's playgrounds are as safe as possible. At this Department's request, the National Children's Play and Recreation Unit is preparing a booklet on playground safety for distribution to local authorities and other 75W operators. A complementary departmental guidance booklet on school playgrounds and related safety issues is in preparation.
