HC Deb 29 April 1991 vol 190 cc19-20W
34. Ms. Abbott

To ask the right hon. Member for Selby, representing the Church Commissioners, what account the commissioners take of the housing shortage in London in respect of their policies on management of their residential property holdings.

Mr. Alison

The commissioners' prime responsibility in the management of all their assets, including residential property, is to provide support for the clergy of the Church of England. Within this overall policy, the commissioners' Octavia Hill estates help meet a social need by providing rented accommodation for over 1,500 families on lower incomes who would otherwise look to local authorities for their housing.
