To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science what provision exists for retraining and redeployment within the education service for teachers or lecturers who(a) wish or (b) are required through redundancy, to change careers.

Mr. Fallon

The deployment and redeployment of teachers are matters for individual LEAs and schools, as is responsibility for in-service training. The Department is providing substantial support through grants for education support and training for in-service training, including retraining to teach new phases and subjects.
