To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer for how many consecutive quarters he forecasts growth will be negative after 1990.

Forecasts of GDP are published for half-yearly periods. The Budget forecast shows a fall in GDP of 1½ per cent. between the second half of 1990 and the first half of 1991, and growth of ¾ per cent. between the first and second halves of 1991.
