To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what was the total expenditure of the Industrial development board in(a) Germany, (b) the United States, (c) South Korea and (d) Japan in each of the past five years.

Mr. Needham

Expenditure incurred by IDB in maintaining its offices in Germany, United States, South Korea and Japan during 1990–91 was £580,675, £1,598,472, £677,343 and £1,017,050 respectively. The components of this expenditure are salaries, rents, capital works and promotional costs.

Because of changes in IDB's accounting methods, comparable information for earlier years could be provided only at disproportionate cost.
