To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what plans he has to promote development and enterprise in Fife region.

Mr. Allan Stewart

The Government's main instrument for promoting development and enterprise in lowland Scotland is Scottish Enterprise and its associated network of local enterprise companies. For Fife region, the relevant local enterprise company is Fife Enterprise which, for the first year of its operation in 1991–92, has a budget in excess of £21 million.
