HC Deb 31 October 1990 vol 178 c626W
Mr. Dalyell

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence if he will make a statement on the consequences for military hospitals of the preparations for the outbreak of hostilities in the Gulf.

Mr. Archie Hamilton

The medical support to the Gulf has been drawn in part from all the service hospitals in the United Kingdom. The Cambridge military hospital at Aldershot, together with the Queen Elizabeth military hospital, Woolwich and the Princess Mary's RAF hospital at Halton, are not accepting new NHS patients other than for maternity and paediatrics and oncology at Halton. The remaining five hospitals at Catterick, Wroughton, Ely, Haslar and Plymouth are still accepting NHS patients, but on a reduced scale. Discussions have been held between officials of the Ministry of Defence and Department of Health on how alternative provision can best be made for the NHS patients affected by these changes.
