§ Dr. David ClarkTo ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what information was obtained about the dietary intakes of food additives and contaminants from his survey "The Dietary and Nutritional Survey of British Adults"; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. GummerThe survey in question was carried out on behalf of my Department and that of the Department of Health. The intention was to gather information on the current dietary behaviour and nutritional status of the adult population, and in particular to establish a database of the range of food, drink and nutrient intakes of adults. It does not, therefore, contain any information on dietary intakes of food additives and contaminants although it can he used to calculate these in conjunction with data on their levels in individual foods obtained from analytical surveys.
