HC Deb 23 October 1990 vol 178 c116W
Dr. Kim Howells

To ask the Secretary of State for Energy if the Government have plans to review their policy on fitting flue gas desulphurisation equipment to fossil fuel power stations, in the light of the estimate in the ECOTEC report that the detrimental effects of acid rain cost £17 billion.

Mr. Baldry

The Government are committed to the reduction in sulphur dioxide emissions of 60 per cent. against 1980 levels, by the year 2003 set out in the EC large combustion plants directive. Flue gas desulphurisation will play an important part in meeting these reductions.
