Dr. ThomasTo ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many local authorities in Wales have developed emergency control centres; how many staff have been trained in connection with the centres; and what is the total cost of establishment and maintenance and staff training and employment in connection with each emergency control centre.
§ Mr. John PattenEmergency centres conforming to current Home Office specifications have been established by two county councils and seven district councils in Wales. Information on staff training relating specifically to emergency centres is not held centrally.
These centres have been developed over a number of years and details of the expenditure incurred could be obtained only at disproportionate cost. The Home Office has no record of maintenance costs for these premises. However, in 1989–90 the total cost per county of the time spent by grant-aided staff on all emergency centre-related activities was as follows:
County Cost £ Clwyd 24,770 Dyfed 9,637 Mid Glamorgan 7,280 South Glamorgan 1,608 West Glamorgan 28,485 Gwent 9,255 Gwynedd 21,667 Powys 10,918
