To ask the Secretary of State for Health whether he will introduce guidelines indicating the attitude local authority social services departments should take over the size, unit bed limits and staffing of registered care homes.

There are no plans to do so at present. "Home Life"—a code of practice for residential care—already gives general guidance on such matters.

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what representations he has received protesting at the interpretation of the provisions in the Registered Homes Act 1984 regarding unit size and bed limits by certain local authority social services departments.
