To ask the Secretary of State for Transport how many enforcement inspections of MOTs were carried out last year.

Mr. Chope

The vehicle inspectorate carried out 27,441 standard control inspections at MOT testing stations and investigated 2,728 individual appeals against the outcome of MOT tests in the year up to 31 March 1990.
