HL Deb 10 October 1990 vol 522 cc398-9WA
Baroness Cox

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What are the total amount and the annual amounts committed by Her Majesty's Government to the Know-How Funds for Poland and Hungary; to which countries has the Know-How Fund subsequently been extended; and what are the additional amounts, both in total and annually, which Her Majesty's Government have committed to these countries.

The Earl of Caithness

: A £25 million Know-How Fund (KHF) for Poland was established in June 1989. Its value was doubled to £50 million in November. A £25 million fund for Hungary was announced in October 1989. In January 1990 the Government decided to extend the KHF to other countries in Eastern Europe which demonstrate commitment to political and economic reform. The scheme was subsequently extended to include Czechoslovakia and the German Democratic Republic (up to unification); no overall commitment has been made in these areas.
