HL Deb 29 November 1990 vol 523 c48WA
Lord Brougham and Vaux

asked Her Majesty's Government:

When the planned widening to four lanes of (i) the M.1 from the M.25 up to the M.18; (ii) the M.25, where it does not already have four lanes; and (iii) the M.6 between the junction with the M.1 and Manchester will start and how long this will take.

The Minister of State, Department of Transport (Lord Brabazon of Tara)

Plans for widening these motorways have not yet reached a stage where firm dates can be given for the start and completion of the works involved. Widening can be done by a number of methods for which the time required for planning and building will vary, depending on the scale of civil engineering work involved and on whether more land needs to be acquired. The best choice of widening method will depend on local circumstances and detailed investigations to identify the most appropriate methods are still in progress or planned to start shortly.
