The specific statutory responsibilities duties and powers which are significant in the handling of a food470W poisoning outbreak are placed upon local authorities. However, Welsh Office guidance to local authorities ask district councils to ensure that they appoint, as proper officer for the discharge of functions relating to the control of outbreaks of food poisoning, a consultant in communicable disease control of the district health authority.
