HL Deb 20 November 1990 vol 523 cc23-4WA
Lord Ross of Newport

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What is the cause of the delay in providing overnight accommodation at the Charing Cross hospital when tests which may result in a subsequent operation are deemed necessary.

Baroness Hooper

Health authorities are responsible for providing the best possible patient care within available resources. As part of a range of measures to keep spending within budget, Riverside Health Authority has temporarily reduced the number of acute services beds at Charing Cross hospital. Priority is being given to emergency and urgent admissions —including emergency and urgent investigations—which may mean that other patients have to wait longer for non-emergency investigations.
