HC Deb 19 November 1990 vol 181 c52W
Mr. Robin Cook

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what was the number of national health service eye tests carried out between 1 April 1989 and 31 March 1990.

Mrs. Virginia Bottomley

The number of NHS sight tests paid for by family health services authorities (formally family practitioner committees) in England and Wales between 1 April 1989 and 31 March 1990 was 5.572 million.

This figure includes approximately 1.7 million sight tests which were carried out before 1 April 1989 but paid for after that date.
